LSU football star linebacker shares encouraging update on recent position change

The scariest thing about him? He hasn’t even come close to reaching his true potential.

Throughout his career, the defensive coaching staff has spent quite a bit of time trying him out at different spots on the field, and it looks like 2024 won’t be much different.

After rotating between inside and outside linebacker in 2023, it sounds as though he’ll almost solely work his magic on the inside this coming year. Notably, if early discussions are any indication, it seems like this could end up being the position adjustment that sticks.

“It’s coming along good. I’m really liking the role – they’ve got me doing a lot of stuff. I’m excited about it,” the talented soon-to-be junior said while speaking with the media earlier this week.

In terms of what makes this position change different from years past is the fact that he’ll truly be able to be himself and just go make plays.

“Trusting what you see, trusting your eyes, and just being a football player, not really thinking too much. I feel like that’s something I’m really good at – not really thinking too much, just going out there and playing.”

When it comes to overall athleticism, very few players in the entire country compare to that of Harold Perkins Jr. If new defensive coordinator Blake Baker can figure out the best way to take advantage of his skills, the ceiling for the Tiger defense is likely much higher than many fans realize.

The LSU football linebacker will get his first chance to show his offseason improvements later this week, as the 2024 National L-Club Spring Game is set to be this Saturday, April 13. The game will take place at Tiger Stadium and will be available to watch live on SEC Network+ at 1:00 p.m. CST.
