LSU Tigers’ Kim Mulkey Erases Distraction Talks Amid Washington Post Issue
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

Is Kim Mulkey distracted by the recent Washington Post scandal that even caused her to go on a massive rant? Well, the LSU Tigers head coach set the record straight and defused those talks even before it goes out of control.

As Mulkey said, she and her Tigers wouldn’t let a “hit piece” distract them from the task at hand. At the end of the day, they know what they need to do in the NCAA Tournament.

LSU Tigers’ Kim Mulkey Speaks Out on Distraction Talks

For those who missed it, a recent report emerged indicating that the Washington Post is set to release a bombshell piece about Mulkey in the upcoming week.

While the report has yet to be released, Mulkey addressed it during a press conference on Saturday and revealed that the unnamed Washington Reporter–later identified to be award-winning journalist Kent Babb–is doing what she called a “hit piece.”

Of course the massive rant sparked concerns that Mulkey and the Tigers are not focused on the NCAA Tournament, especially with the head coach finding the time of the day to still speak out about the matter.

After their Round of 32 win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, however, Mulkey made sure to clarify that’s not the case.

“We’re not going to let one sleazy reporter distract us from what we’re trying to do. Absolutely not,” Mulkey shared. “My kids didn’t even know I said that yesterday. That team is not involved in this. They were in shock when they saw all that on the internet. I don’t take that stuff to my team.”

That’s certainly quite relieving to hear for LSU fans, especially since there are high hopes they can defend their national championship title. The last thing the team needs right now is any off-court distraction.

As for Mulkey, though, the fact that she addressed the unreleased report early on certainly only brought more attention to them and Washington Post. Perhaps she felt the need to make her stance clear before it gets released, but she definitely fueled the anticipation for it.

What Did LSU Tigers’ Kim Mulkey Said About the Washington Post Report?

For those who missed it, aside from the fact that Kim Mulkey called the upcoming report a “hit piece,” the LSU Tigers coach also shared that the said reporter has been working on the story for the past two years, all while trying to collect negative statements from former players.

She also noted that the reporter is “ignoring the 40-plus years of positive stories that they have heard from people about me” for the piece to paint her under negative light.

The Tigers tactician then proceeded to share that she plans to sue if any false story about her is published.

“I’ve hired the best defamation law firm in the country and I will sue the Washington Post if they publish a false story about me. Not many people are in a position to hold these kind of journalists accountable, but I am, and I’ll do it. That’s all I’m going to say about this right now. And now I’m going to get back to talking about my basketball team and winning this game tomorrow,” Mulkey added.

For now, it remains to be seen what will happen to the Washington Post report and whet it will be released. But as Mulkey said, she’s only focused on LSU and their NCAA Tournament journey.
