Jake Paul facing Mike Tyson in a boxing match was a considerable aberration for sports fans. ‘Iron Mike’ is the consensus icon of the sport to this day. Tyson, facing a 30-year younger influencer, did not sit well with fans. That was before the bout was to be a professional sanction. Now, tensions are at an all-time high. However, Jake Paul means to take it very seriously.
Mike Tyson also means to achieve a spectacular comeback in this day and age. Taking to socials, he shut down rumors of an exhibition bout. The governing body has made it a professional bout. Recently, in his BS w/ Jake Paul podcast, Paul clarified that Tyson wished to raise the stakes to a pro-bout. Now, he pitches in with what’s in store for him.
It’s an honor to be in the ring with him, but I have to end him, It’s war...All is fair in love and war. I love the guy, but as soon as it turned into a pro-fight, one of us has to die...He’s a legend. I love the guy. But at the end of the day, it’s war and sometimes you just have to go to war and put it all on the line. I still have the utmost respect for him, and I think he’ll say the same about me and what I’ve done for the sport. Jake Paul at the Formula One Grand Prix presser in Miami (H/T MMA Mania)
When Mike Tyson (50-6) faces the ‘Problem Child’ in the squared ring, he does it under pro rules after 19 years. Recently, he faced Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition bout in 2020. Tyson’s recently regressing health has remained a big concern, though that phase is gone, according to Tyson’s camp. Despite having the challenge of rising from cruiserweight limits, Paul is better off for now.

“I love Mike. I’m super respectful of him. It’s an honor to be in the ring with him. But I have to end him,” Paul said at Formula One Miami Grand Prix. pic.twitter.com/lP4Ny1xBKE
He even hedges his chances to weigh around 240 pounds, closer to what consensus KO artist Anthony Joshua scales at. Again and again, Paul nudged that they were proceeding with Tyson’s blessing. Having said that, though, he means to wreak havoc, feeling Tyson would want the same. With the performance they put, he hopes to hoist boxing to a whole new level.
Pugilist sensation Jake Paul and Mike Tyson could not be more dissimilar. Tyson has held the WBA and WBC title straps and was the undisputed world heavyweight titleholder from 1987 to 1990. He was also the youngest ever to do so. Paul started off with white-collar boxing and aspires to be who and what Tyson has become.
However, he has been a successful entrepreneur in the combat sports culture. His capital ventures with Simplebet Inc. & and military contractor Anduril Industries later saw him opting for more combat-oriented roles. In tandem with ‘Boxing Bullies’ – his anti-bullying effort to teach self-defense and boxing basics, Paul founded the ‘Most Valuable Promotions’ (MVP). Now, MVP sponsors his bout with Tyson.
Their July 20 bout will occur at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, and Netflix will stream it globally. Some unique features include:
— A $2 million VIP package of 2 ringside seats, for the first-ever, to promoters
— a monumental 35,000 booking floor-level venue, as per
Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of MVP
— 121,000 presale access buys
— Netflix is airing it LIVE in a historic first
— a contest of 8 two-minute rounds
— pre-fight locker room photo-op with Tyson and Paul & and two-night luxury penthouse
